Programme:

‘Infertility Treatment via Medically Assisted Procreation Procedures, Including In Vitro Fertilization, Provided at Medically Assisted Procreation Centers (2024–2028)’.

The programme aims to ensure that couples affected by infertility have equal access to in vitro fertilization procedures at medically assisted procreation centers. It also enables individuals who are preparing for or currently undergoing cancer treatment that may impair fertility to preserve their reproductive material (oocytes or sperm) for future use.

What does this programme include?

In vitro fertilisation provided in a medically assisted procreation centre.

Under the programme, the couple is eligible for (in total) up to six customized assisted reproduction procedures, including:

Scenario #2

2 IVF cycles

with donor oocytes

with possible fertilisation of up to 6 reproductive cells per cycle.

How should I prepare for my screening consultation?

Is the screening consultation free of charge?

The screening consultation is free of charge for couples who meet the basic requirements of the programme:

1. female age – up to age 42 or 45, according to the treatment scenario
2. male age – up to age 55
3. documented one-year infertility treatment or absolute cause of infertility
4. both partners must be insured with and eligible for benefits under the National Health Fund
5. married or cohabiting

Should I do any test prior to my appointment?

No, please do not do any additional tests before your appointment. This may involve unnecessary costs. If, after reviewing your case and medical records, your physician determines that additional investigations are necessary before you become eligible for the program, they will prescribe those for you. However, please bring any existing test results with you.

What documents should I bring to my screening consultation?

Please bring your medical records, test results, certificates of past treatment. Some tests may need to be repeated; the screening physician will decide if you need to repeat any tests.

When screening couples for IVF procedures, the physician analyses whether all other available methods available to the couple have been explored. The couple must present documented evidence of one year of infertility treatment or be diagnosed with an absolute cause of infertility such as azoospermia or fallopian tube obstruction.

      Frequently Asked Questions

According to the Infertility Treatment Act, in Poland, IVF treatment is available to couples (man and woman) who are married or in a partnership, i.e. in so-called cohabitation.
In order to proceed, both spouses/partners must sign declarations and consents in accordance with the Act, including, inter alia, a declaration of marriage or civil partnership.

Moreover, to become eligible for the programme, both partners must be insured with and eligible for benefits under the National Health Fund.

The criteria issued by the Ministry of Health establish an upper age limit for women and men to be eligible for government-funded IVF treatment. For example, the term ‘up to 42 years of age’ means that a woman can proceed with treatment if she is under 42 years old on the date of her programme eligibility screening.

Unfortunately it is not; pre-implantation diagnostics are not being financed under the government-funded programme at the moment. However, couples receiving funding may choose to test embryos in commercial tests at their own expense.

The government-funded in vitro programme fully covers the in vitro treatment procedure, so patients have no out-of-pocket costs.

Yes, they can. Couples who previously participated in local government-funded programmes or the Ministry of Health program between 2013 and 2016 can still access IVF financing under the new programme.

Yes, you can. Couples who, as a result of previous treatments before 1 June 2024, have cryopreserved embryos are eligible to participate in the programme and proceed with the transfer of their embryos.

Yes, you are. Previous experience with IVF or already having children does not exclude any couple from participating in the programme.
