Microbiological testing
Infections of the genitourinary tract are usually associated with unpleasant symptoms such as itching, burning and discharge. However, many cases of infection of the reproductive organs are asymptomatic, causing serious consequences. Microbiological tests allow for detecting the presence of microorganisms and selecting the appropriate treatment.

What is microbiological testing?
What is microbiological testing?
Microbiological testing is based on the analysis of a swab taken from the woman’s genital tract and ruling out or confirming the presence of the microorganisms for which testing is done.
The following are among the microbiological tests that are most commonly performed for diagnosing infertility and prior to treatment with assisted reproductive techniques:
• Test for vaginal cleanliness (biocenosis)
• Cervical smear for Chlamydia trachomatis
• Cervical smear for Mycoplasma hominis
• Cervical smear for Ureaplasma species
Untreated infections caused by these microorganisms may lead to serious complications such as inflammation of the fallopian tubes, ovaries or cervical and endometrial inflammation. This can result in difficulties getting pregnant.
